Took the overnight train from Amsterdam to Munich, and got in about 8am. We dropped our bags at the hotel, and headed down to Bavaria since we still had a full day to use the train pass. We spent the day hanging out in Hohenschwangau at the base of the Bavarian Alps (think Sound of Music), hiked, checked out some castles from Mad King Ludwig, and rowed around a lake. The nice weather is such a treat since it’s sunny and in the 70’s, a perfect fall day!
Also, Bavaria is so picturesque it’s almost sickening. 🙂

Sleeper car on the train. Slept really well

Sunrise over munich

getting closer to the Bavarian alps!

Looking down on Hohenschwangau Castle, fall colors, and the alpine lake

Looking down on Neuschwanstein Castle

Another view of Neuschwanstein Castle

Bridge in the center is where we hiked up to to take some of the pics. From a cell phone so you can’t see the huge waterfall underneath it. (Another sneaky picture from a “no camera allowed zone”.

I talked Shawn in to rowing around Alpsee Lake, he’d never done a row boat before, just canoes.

Shawn took his turn rowing across Lake Alpsee.

Bavaria is picturesque like a postcard!
Awesome view.
