Castle de Haar & The Hague

Rented a car today and drove to the Haar Castle. Shawn was unlucky in re-claiming his family heritage. 😉  It was beautiful on the inside, but no pictures were allowed inside. You can see more of the inside at this link.   Since we had the car, we decided to drive to The Hague, famous for it’s International Criminal Court, read more at this link.   Our GPS died and we never did find the ICC, but had a good time none the less.  Tomorrow we’re going to do the Van Gogh museum and Anne Frank house, and tour about Amsterdam city.

Thanks to all for reading, and keep the comments coming. Aloha!  🙂

Our rental that we nicknamed the “Pope Mobile”. Literally 2 seats and 4 wheels, but it was easy to park. 🙂

Crest over the gate. Yes, there is a drawbridge and a moat. 🙂

Shawn before attempting to lay siege to his castle.

Ahhhhh… I could live like this!

I snuck a picture of an ornate door. the tour guide kept a close eye on those with cameras, so other pics weren’t possible.

At a park in The Hague. Walked around for a while to find the museum and court building, but the GPS started to die and it was getting dark, so we headed back to the pope-mobile.

Yay! Found a windmill in Holland.

  1. Well Shawn, Dad’s ancesters were from Germany. Maybe that’s why you couldn’t claim the castle in Holland.

    • Aloha Janice! Does not hurt to try to overtake the Haar Castle, but we were forced to retreat to the cafe. xoxo

  2. The castle is beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Oh I hope you can take pics at Anne Franks house, I have always wanted to see that.

  3. Did you end up running around in the Hague…one of my fav things there is the people riding bicycles, texting and drinking a soda all at the same time. They are great to throw sticks at.

    • Yes, ran around the hague. Shawn accidentally kept the lights on in our pope-mobile, and almost killed the engine. 😉 Also, our gps died, so it got interesting. Bikes in the hague are nothing compared to amsterdam. pedestrians and cars have NO rigth-of-way, all bikes everywhere. Saw an “almost fight” when a pedestrian caused a biker to crash.. crazy and fun. 🙂
